ACLA Names Don May Senior Vice President for Reimbursement and Strategy
Washington, D.C. — The American Clinical Laboratory Association (ACLA) today announced that Don May has joined the organization as Senior Vice President for Reimbursement and Strategy. In this role, May will lead ACLA’s work on Medicare payment, coverage, reimbursement policy, and broader strategic initiatives to support patient access to clinical laboratory services.
May brings decades of experience working at the intersection of healthcare finance, payment policy, regulatory advocacy, and patient access. He most recently served with the Federation of American Hospitals, where he led a broad portfolio of policy and finance issues focused on protecting coverage and access to healthcare services for patients and member health systems. In that role, he served as the association’s chief liaison on hospital finance and health policy with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC).
“Don is a highly respected health policy leader with deep expertise in Medicare, reimbursement and healthcare delivery,” said ACLA President Susan Van Meter. “His experience working with providers across the health care delivery system, policymakers, and federal agencies will be invaluable as ACLA continues to develop and advocate for policies that expand access to the highest quality clinical laboratory services, improve patient outcomes, and advance the next generation of personalized care.”
Prior to his work at the Federation of American Hospitals, May served as Executive Vice President for Payment and Health Care Delivery Policy at the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), where he led advocacy efforts on Medicare and health care delivery policy, helped shape policy development, and oversaw advocacy research. He also served as Managing Director with the Farragut Square Group, where he led healthcare facilities research, and spent 12 years at the American Hospital Association leading policy development activities for Medicare and Medicaid payment.
May earned a Bachelor’s degree in political science from Ohio University and a Master of Public Administration degree from The Ohio State University. He also serves on the board of Heart Valve Voice, an organization supporting patients who need or have received heart valve replacement.
